Northern Lancaster Soup FAQ

Q: Do I have to live in the Ephrata or Cocalico school districts to submit a proposal?

A: No, but your project must be centered and affect this community

Q: What types of proposals are you looking for?

A:  We want to improve people's lives in this area.  If your idea does that, submit a proposal.    Maybe this is how you begin your landscape watercolor career.  Maybe you want to help farmers in the area with an innovative and collaborative trade system.  Maybe you make the most amazing bread and a friend makes delectable soups and another person you know makes salsas and fruit spreads and you want to open a coop market. Or it's hotrods, jazz, basketball, prom dresses, bees, robots or llamas.  The sky is the limit!

Q: If I get chosen to present can I bring a ton of people to the event to support me?

A: Sure!  Everyone is welcome!

Q: If these get really popular, can events be more frequent than quarterly?

A:  That's a great question!  We would love to do that and we will keep everyone informed should we add additional Soup events.

Q: Can children attend the event and vote?

A: Anyone can attend and we encourage children to participate.

Q: Why can't presenters use technology in their presentations?

A: This way the playing field is leveled for all to participate.

Q: Could there be a separate Soup event for students?

A:  That's a great idea!  We are talking about that for Fall 2020 or January 2021.

Q: So after the first one in January 2020, people who come are supposed to bring a potluck dish?

A:  Yes.  We are encouraging a community dining experience - meeting and sharing food with people you may or may not know in your community.  We think food brings people together in ways that nothing else can.

Q: Why can't this be like those reality TV shows?

A:  We wanted to create an experience that brought people together and encouraged a wide variety of participation. Sometimes those shows don't bring out the best in people.

Q:  What if I need more money to start my project than what I receive if I win?

A:  This event is designed to micro-fund projects, to give people the seed money to encourage them to think bigger, expand their options and make new connections.

Q:  If I don't get chosen to present, can I reapply?

A:  Absolutely!  We encourage you to reapply.  Note:  We are not keeping applications from event to event, so if you want to present, please reapply to be considered.

Q:  If I present and I don't win, can I reapply?

A:  Sure!  We ask that you skip one event and then reapply.  For example, if you present in January and do not win, please wait until June to apply again.

We want to thank Detroit Soup for their willingness to share, teach and collaborate on our Soup project.  Because of them, there are Soup events all over the country and world!
